On 24 September 19 the Eurobodalla Shire Council agreed to sell the Moruya Racecourse to Racing NSW. The 2 parties will now negotiate a contract of sale and once finalised Racing NSW will grant the Moruya Jockey Club a 50 year lease to operate the facility. The sale will not alter the functioning of the Club nor the racecourse in any significant way. Racing NSW wants to own the racecourse is to ensure the security of racing in the area and to support its decisions to invest in the facility. With the racecourse now 35 years old much of the infrastructure requires upgrading. The Club has plans to carry out this work over the next 5-10 years with the projected cost around $1.5 million. Racing NSW has advised that as owners of the facility they will assist the Club in funding this work.
A day at the races in Moruya will be unchanged and continue to be a great day out for all members of the local community and visitors to our region. Over the years ahead the Club aims to further improve the experience by updating and improving facilities at the racecourse for both racegoers and trainers and their staff.
The Board of the Moruya Jockey Club would like to thank the many members of the public who supported this decision as well as the council staff and Councillors who managed the process of making the decision.
