Winner – Country TAB Race Club of the Year
The Moruya Jockey Club – Winner of the Country TAB Race Club of the Year at the 2017 Country and Provincial Racing Awards by Racing NSW.
The Country TAB Race Club of the Year award, recently won by The Moruya Jockey Club, is designed to acknowledge the club that has achieved excellence in the conduct of racing during the 2016/17 year.
The awards night was held in Sydney in late September. Some of the major criteria for the award included improvement of performance, community involvement, attendances and quality of customer experience. Brian Cowden, Secretary Manager, was quoted as saying “We’ve got really good patronage for a relatively small country town. We always get a decent crowd whether it’s a small Tuesday meeting in June or one of our big January Cup meetings.
The Jockey Club is working on improvements to the facilities. The Club recently received a grant to completely upgrade the irrigation system, which should be under way any day. There are plans to improve the Members’ area during 2018 and there are long term plans to slowly but surely upgrade the other amenities at the racecourse.
The award is a brilliant start to a busy period for the Club, which has a number of big meetings over the next couple of months. There is the big Christmas Eve meeting on December 24, followed by the Narooma and Moruya Cups on 8 January and 22 January respectively.
